A lot of good work has been produced this week from bowls to new rugs started, decoupage and the progress of a bust which will eventually look like a bronze. Also a bit of painting was done – I admire the fact that Jane was doing some research for painting goats in her watercolour picture posted last week. Hilary had a unique idea for decoupaging a roof tile!
Although this is a bank holiday in France we were very busy at Jeudi Art. Two rugs are finished, well done Pauline and Jane and Helen is continuing with her fantastic rug using clothes that have a meaning to her.
Another Jane was doing some stunning water colours. Katie was experimenting withs inks and Anne was doing a very intricate drawing in order to paint in water colour. Brigid had finished painting her papier maché bowl and will now découpage the outside. Brigitte was preparing fabric for a patchwork quilt and she will be doing a course for us later in the year. busy busy busy
I love this plant pot that Brigid is decorating using decoupage and paint. Eric was finishing off his abstract painting of a stream by moonlight. I am doing another portrait and here is the tray I bought from Emmaus together with the pile of crockery that will be the mosaic that will be put onto it. Watch this space!
250g butter cut into small pieces
2 tablespoons golden syrup
melt together in a pan
250g flour
250g dessicated coconut
250g rolled oats
125g sultanas
188g caster sugar
mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl – add butter mix and a little water if needed
roll into balls and press down onto lined trays – this makes three tray loads
bake for 15 minutes until golden oven mark 180 deg
We are loving the metallic paint – even the chicken turned golden (or bronze really)
A bit thin on the ground this week, everyone is doing their gardens as the weather is so good. However, lots of rugs are being finished off. Eric painted over his bridge and now we have a superb abstract. I painted one of the papier maché bowls with bronze paint and started a portrait.
I think this really works well. Just a plastic plant pot with decoupaged flowers. We’ve decided that it would look great if it was painted inside. Well done Hilary.
Jane brought in a work in progress with the cats entwined. Katie has finished her bowl of fruit and I think they look good enough to eat. I painted a chicken and went back to a seascape that I started in ink and finished off in acrylic.
The biscuits this week were Nigella’s salted peanut cookies – yummy – the recipe as follows:
75g soft brown sugar plus extra for dipping
100g butter and 50g vegetable shortening eg Trex
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
175g self-raising flour
125g salted peanuts
Heat oven to 180 deg
Mix together sugar, fats, egg and vanilla. Stir in flour and then the peanuts. Drop rounded teaspoons of dough onto the baking sheet. Oil the bottom of a glass, dip into the extra sugar and squash down the cookies to flatten. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Easy
