14th April 2021. Well it’s been a long haul in France as we are in a month of even more confinement, not being able to travel more than 10km from our homes. We are allowed to mix with up to six people but it is not recommended. No bars or restaurants are open and, hopefully only for this month, no non-essential shops, which means, crucially for me, the fabric shop. However, I did predict this and stocked up on fabric at the end of March. I have been dressmaking – pictures to come – and needle felting – secret presents so no photos – but not painting. Jenny Gilbert, however has been very prolific and here are some of her much improved water colours.

Dawn has finished her beautiful painting of her grandchildren

Amber, who lives in the UK sent in this embroidery

Viv went on a stained glass workshop recently – numbers restricted to four – and made this (2nd on the left) sun catcher for the garden

Gabriele did this wonderful abstract painting

… and finally John has been having fun making some clocks

Tuesday 9th February 2021 – Well, the weeks seem to be passing quickly and I can see that Spring is trying to present itself with daffs in the garden, but we are still confined, not on full lockdown like the UK as we can see up to 6 people in our houses but restaurants and bars are closed. I have been busy doing a lot of needle felting, the results of which I cannot reveal as I am being very forward thinking and preparing for next Christmas. However here are a few other things I have been up to.

As most people are saying, let’s hope this year will be a better one. As you can imagine, there has not been very much activity at Jeudi Art for most of the year. But some of us have been busy doing projects at home.

Jenny G did this advent calendar for her mum

A Monet-esque painting by Steve

some of the other things we have been doing with our time
I always mean to do more of this sort of thing. Only two pages but inspired by the weather

and here is a variety of work by the regulars. The numbers are down from usual but that’s perfectly fine as I like to keep people spaced out in these strange times – in the distancing sense.

I am always heartened by Jenny and Janet who come in on a Tuesday morning with so much enthusiasm. The other week Jenny decided that she wanted to do some abstract featuring holes

and then got carried away with stripes

Janet was carrying on with the bird theme

Denise and Frances always do delicate work but then Denise decided to do a big abstract of some rosehips

and here are some of her pears

Daniel is doing a series of botanical flower water colours

I have so many canvases stuck in the cupboard that I’m not happy with, so recently I have been revisiting them and made completely different paintings – I have been using water-soluble oil paints to go over acrylic work, even if some of them have been varnished, it seems to work.

Sorry for the pause but we have been having a bit of trouble posting lately. So, we have quite a lot to catch up on. The attendance is not up to what it was before all this craziness but nevertheless the output has been steady. Janet and Jenny have been coming regularly and their enthusiasm is catching. Here is some of their work

Each Tuesday Jenny and Janet have been trying different subjects – they are both beginners and have made the most wonderful progress. Here are some cats, seed heads in jam jars and trees plus a hare a sunflower and the odd flower plus my efforts whilst doing the instruction – it has been a challenge for me too
